RFIDtækni, or Radio-Frequency Identification technology, is a system that uses radio waves to identify and track tags attached to objects. These tags, often called RFID tags, contain an integrated circuit and an antenna. The circuit stores and processes information, while the antenna transmits and receives radio signals. RFID systems typically consist of three main components: the RFID tag, an RFID reader (also known as an interrogator), and an antenna.

When an RFID reader emits radio waves, the antenna on the RFID tag is activated. This activation causes the tag to transmit its stored data back to the reader. The reader then decodes this data and can use it for various purposes, such as inventory management, access control, or tracking goods. RFID technology can be passive, where the tag is powered by the reader's radio waves, or active, where the tag has its own power source, such as a battery. Passive tags are more common due to their lower cost and simpler design. Active tags, however, offer a longer read range and can transmit data more frequently.

The applications of RFIDtækni are diverse and continue to expand. Industries utilize it for supply chain management, asset tracking, and manufacturing processes. In retail, it helps with inventory control and preventing theft. Healthcare employs RFID for patient identification and tracking medical equipment. Furthermore, it is used in public transportation for ticketing and in animal identification. The ability to identify objects without direct line-of-sight and at high speeds makes RFID a valuable tool for automation and efficiency.
