Querschnittsdarstellungen, often translated as cross-sections or sectional views, are a fundamental concept in technical drawing and design. They are used to reveal the internal structure or configuration of an object that would otherwise be hidden from view. A cross-section is created by imagining an object is cut by a plane, and then displaying the view of the object as if that plane were removed. This allows designers and engineers to inspect internal features, dimensions, and relationships between components.

The process involves defining a cutting plane that passes through the object at a specific location and orientation. The part of the object on one side of the cutting plane is then removed, and the remaining portion is viewed from the opposite side. To indicate the cut surface, it is typically filled with hatching lines, which are parallel lines drawn at an angle. The direction and spacing of these hatching lines can vary depending on the material or specific conventions being followed.
