Pölynimurit

Pölynimurit, also known as dust mites, are microscopic arachnids that are a common cause of allergic reactions in humans. They are found in various environments, including homes, schools, and workplaces, and are particularly prevalent in dusty areas. Dust mites feed on dead skin cells and can thrive in warm, humid conditions, making them more common in indoor environments.

There are several species of dust mites, with the most common being Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae. These mites are about the size of a human egg and can live for several months without food. They reproduce rapidly, with a female mite laying up to 20 eggs per day. Dust mites are often found in bedding, carpets, and upholstered furniture, where they can accumulate in large numbers.

Dust mites are a significant allergen, causing symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and skin rashes. They can also exacerbate conditions like asthma and eczema. To control dust mites, it is recommended to keep living spaces clean and dry, use allergen-proof bedding, and regularly vacuum and wash bedding and carpets. Dust mite allergies can be managed with antihistamines, decongestants, and other medications, and in severe cases, immunotherapy may be prescribed.
