Pétionville

Pétionville is a commune in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area of Haiti. It is situated in the hills overlooking the capital city. Pétionville is known as one of the most affluent areas in Haiti, housing many of the country's upper class and a significant expatriate population. The commune's economy is largely driven by commerce, tourism, and services. It features a vibrant nightlife, upscale boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants.

The area was founded in 1887 and named after Alexandre Pétion, a Haitian president. Pétionville has historically been a center for diplomatic missions and international organizations operating in Haiti. Its elevated position offers scenic views, and the climate is generally cooler than that of the lower-lying Port-au-Prince. The commune has faced challenges common to Haiti, including infrastructure limitations and the impacts of natural disasters, notably the 2010 earthquake which caused significant damage, though recovery and rebuilding efforts have been ongoing. Pétionville remains a key economic and social hub within Haiti.
