Pyörätyyppien, a Finnish term, translates to "types of bicycles" in English. This encompasses the broad categorization of bicycles based on their design, intended use, and features. Understanding these different types is crucial for selecting the most suitable bicycle for a particular activity or terrain.

One of the most common categories is the road bike. These bicycles are designed for speed and efficiency on paved surfaces. They typically feature lightweight frames, thin tires with high inflation pressure, drop handlebars that allow for an aerodynamic riding position, and a gearing system optimized for tarmac.

Mountain bikes, on the other hand, are built for off-road adventures. They are characterized by sturdy frames, wider tires with knobby treads for grip on loose surfaces, suspension systems (front or full) to absorb shocks, and upright handlebars for better control.

Hybrid bikes blend features of both road and mountain bikes, offering a versatile option for a variety of terrains and commuting. They often have flat handlebars, medium-width tires, and a frame geometry that balances comfort and efficiency.

Other notable types include city bikes, designed for comfortable urban commuting with features like fenders and racks; touring bikes, built for long-distance travel with robust frames and ample carrying capacity; and BMX bikes, made for stunts and racing with small frames and single gears.
