These wraps are typically applied in the fall and removed in the spring.

Another category includes chemical treatments. These can be fungicides or insecticides applied to the bark or foliage to prevent or combat specific diseases and pest infestations. Herbicides might also be used in very specific situations to manage competing vegetation around the base of a tree, though care must be taken not to harm the tree itself.

In some cases, mulching around the base of a tree can be considered a form of puunsuoja. Mulch helps retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds, all of which contribute to a healthier tree. However, it's important to apply mulch correctly, keeping it away from direct contact with the trunk to prevent rot and pest issues.
