The first, and more common, understanding of pudelikaelu relates to a particular style of dog grooming for poodles. This grooming style often involves shaving the hindquarters while leaving a pom-pom at the tail and a spherical puff of hair at the chest and head. Historically, this elaborate cut was developed for the poodle's original working function as a water retriever, where the shaved areas allowed for better movement in the water, and the puffs of hair provided insulation for vital organs.
