Puchons

The Puchons are a fictional semi-aquatic mammal species created for contemporary fantasy settings and role-playing media. They are described as native to the island archipelago of Lirion in the eastern seas of the fictional continent of Mera. Puchons are known for compact bodies, dense water-repellent fur, and broad tails that aid in swimming. Adults typically measure 45 to 70 cm in length with a 15 to 25 cm tail, and they weigh 3 to 9 kg. They exhibit a brown to gray pelage with a pale underfur and have large forward-facing eyes adapted to dim light, enabling effective foraging in mangroves and tidal pools. Their dorsal ridge houses scent-marking glands used to delineate territory.

They are omnivorous, feeding on fruit, aquatic plants, algae, crustaceans, and small invertebrates. Puchons live in pods ranging from 5 to 20 individuals, led by a dominant female. Social bonds are reinforced through mutual grooming, cooperative foraging, and synchronized vocalizations. They communicate with a range of chirps, whistles, and tail-slaps, and use scent marking to mark territory and feeding sites.

Breeding occurs once per year, with litters of 1 to 3 offspring after a gestation of about 72 days. Puchon pups are cared for by both parents and older pod members, typically remaining with the group for 1 to 2 years. In storytelling and games, puchons are depicted as curious, intelligent, and resilient, often forming symbiotic relationships with coastal human communities.

Conservation status varies by setting, but in most official texts they are listed as of least concern, with localized threats from habitat loss and pollution addressed through habitat protection and sustainable practices.
