Psiquiatría is the medical specialty dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental disorders. It employs a biopsychosocial approach, considering biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding and managing mental health conditions. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who have completed specialized training in mental health.

The practice of psiquiatría involves a variety of therapeutic modalities. Pharmacotherapy, the use of medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers, is a common intervention. Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is also integral, with various forms like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and interpersonal therapy being widely used. In some cases, psychiatrists may also recommend other treatments, including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
