Prägepulver

Prägepulver, often translated as embossing powder, is a finely granulated thermoplastic powder used in crafting and artistic applications to create raised, embossed designs. It is typically applied to a surface that has been stamped with a slow-drying ink or adhesive. The powder adheres to the wet ink, and when heated, it melts and fuses, creating a raised, textured effect.

The primary components of most Prägepulver are a polymer resin, typically PVC or polyester, and pigments for color. Fillers and additives may also be included to achieve specific effects like shimmer, glitter, or metallic finishes. When heat is applied, the resin melts, encapsulating the pigments and any other particles, and then cools to form a solid, raised design.

The application process usually involves stamping an image with embossing ink, generously sprinkling the Prägepulver over the inked area, shaking off the excess, and then applying heat with a heat gun or specialized embossing oven. The heat must be consistent and sufficient to melt the powder without scorching it. Prägepulver comes in a wide array of colors and finishes, allowing for diverse creative possibilities in cardmaking, scrapbooking, mixed media art, and other decorative crafts.
