Provadnia

Provadnia is a fictional sovereign state created for world-building. It is depicted as a landlocked republic in central Veridia. The capital is Valengrad. The official language is Provadian; minority languages include Burlish and Keldari. The population is about 1.2 million.

The country covers about 29,000 square kilometers, with rolling plains, mixed forests and a chain of low hills. It has a temperate climate; major rivers include the Lir and the Kest, and Lake Mir lies near the central plain. Hydroelectric power accounts for a portion of energy needs.

Provadnia is a parliamentary republic. The President serves as head of state with largely ceremonial duties, while the Prime Minister is head of government. The unicameral National Assembly has about 90 seats. The system is multi-party, and the judiciary operates independently. Valengrad hosts the seat of government.

The area traces to a medieval Duchy of Provadnia; it was unified in the late 17th century and gained independence in the Veridian Accords of 1875. The country pursued modernization in the late 20th century and joined regional organizations in Veridia.

The economy is diversified, with agriculture (wheat and grapes), forestry, light manufacturing, and services including finance. The Provadian florin is the official currency. The population enjoys public education and health care, and literacy rates are high. Major trade partners are neighboring Veridian states and regional markets.

Cultural life features folk music and choral traditions; the annual Lumis Night festival is widely observed. Cuisine emphasizes rye bread and mushroom dishes. Notable landmarks include Valengrad Cathedral and Provad National Park. The country has two universities and a modest transport network of roads, rail, and a regional airport.
