Protsendilised

Protsendilised is an Estonian adjective that describes something as percent-related, i.e., expressed as a percentage or as a proportion of 100. The term is used to talk about quantities, rates, or distributions that are given in percent rather than in absolute units. It is common in statistics, economics, surveying, and everyday language when relative measures are important.

The word is formed from the noun protsent (percent) with the suffix -ilised, producing an adjective equivalent to “percentual” or “percent-based.” As a language feature, protsendilised describes methods, figures, or results that are tied to a hundredth-part basis, such as shares, changes, or comparisons expressed in percent.

In practice, protsendilised figures appear in many contexts. In statistics and data presentation, they describe relative shares (protsendiline jaotus), rates (protsendiline kasv, protsendimäär), or frequencies. In economics and business, they are used for indicators like protsendiline kasum, protsendiline muutus, or protsendiline maksumäär. When communicating results, specifying the base value is essential because the same percentage can imply different magnitudes depending on the denominator.

Calculation and interpretation require caution. A listed protsendiline value depends on the chosen base, so misinterpretation is possible if the denominator or reference point is unclear. Common formulas include protsendiline muutus = ((uus - vana) / vana) × 100%. Clear reporting often pairs percentages with the actual quantities to convey the full context.
