Protagoni
Protagoni is a term derived from ancient Greek, meaning "first actor" or "chief actor." In literature, drama, film, and other narrative forms, the protagoni is the central character or one of the central characters around whom the story revolves. The audience typically follows their journey, experiences their conflicts, and often empathizes with their struggles and triumphs. The protagoni's motivations, goals, and internal or external struggles drive the plot forward. While often heroic, the protagoni can also be flawed, morally ambiguous, or even villainous, depending on the narrative's intent. The antagonist, conversely, is typically the force that opposes the protagoni, creating conflict and tension. The relationship between the protagoni and antagonist is fundamental to many storytelling structures. The term itself highlights the character's primary role in initiating and experiencing the unfolding events of the narrative.
