Proliverationsrate is a proposed metric that quantifies the rate of hepatocyte proliferation within liver tissue. It is intended to capture how quickly liver cells enter the cell cycle and complete division in a given time frame, focusing on liver-specific proliferative dynamics.

Definition and measurement concepts: The proliverationsrate is typically expressed as either the daily percentage of hepatocytes undergoing DNA synthesis or as the number of proliferative events per unit liver mass per unit time. Measurements are commonly based on DNA synthesis markers (such as BrdU or EdU incorporation), immunostaining for Ki-67 or PCNA, or transcriptomic signatures associated with cell-cycle entry. Values may be reported per gram of liver tissue or per a defined hepatocyte population.

Context and applications: The metric is used to compare regenerative capacity across species, developmental stages, or disease states. It can aid in studying liver regeneration after injury or partial hepatectomy, assessing hepatotoxic effects of drugs, and informing mathematical models of hepatic growth and recovery.
