Produksjonsruting, also known as production routing or scheduling, is the process of determining the sequence and timing of operations for manufacturing specific products. It involves assigning tasks to machines, workstations, or personnel to optimize resource utilization and meet production deadlines. The goal is to create an efficient workflow that minimizes production time, reduces costs, and ensures product quality.

Several factors influence production routing decisions. These include the availability of raw materials, the capacity of machinery and labor, the complexity of the production process, and the desired delivery dates. Different routing strategies exist, such as forward scheduling, which starts from the current date and determines when each job can be completed, and backward scheduling, which starts from the due date and determines when each job must begin.

These can range from simple Gantt charts to sophisticated Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. These tools help in visualizing the production schedule, identifying potential bottlenecks, and making necessary adjustments in response to unforeseen disruptions, such as machine breakdowns or urgent order changes.
