Processkapabilitet refers to the ability of a manufacturing or operational process to consistently produce goods or services that meet specified quality standards. It is a key concept in quality management and process improvement, used to evaluate how well a process performs relative to its design specifications and tolerances. Process capability is typically quantified using statistical measures such as Cp, Cpk, and Cpm, which assess the potential capability and actual performance of a process.

Cp compares the width of a process’s natural variation (spread of data) to the width of the specification limits, indicating the potential capability if the process is centered. Cpk adjusts Cp based on how well the process is centered within those limits, providing a measure of actual performance. Cpm further considers the target or desired value, emphasizing how close the process output is to the ideal target.

A process is considered capable if its capability indices meet predetermined acceptance criteria, often a Cpk of 1.33 or higher, indicating that most output falls within specification limits with a reasonable margin. Low process capability suggests the need for process adjustments or improvements to reduce variation and align performance with quality requirements.
