Problemcenteredness is an approach to learning, teaching, or problem-solving that places the problem at the forefront of the experience. Instead of beginning with a theoretical framework or a set of predefined steps, this method starts with a real-world issue or challenge that needs to be addressed. The problem then serves as the context and motivator for acquiring knowledge and developing skills.

In educational settings, problemcentered learning, often referred to as problem-based learning (PBL), shifts the focus from instructor-led lectures to student-driven inquiry. Students are presented with complex, often ill-defined problems, and they work collaboratively to identify what they need to learn to solve it. This process naturally leads to the acquisition of relevant knowledge and the development of critical thinking, research, and collaboration skills. The instructor acts as a facilitator, guiding students rather than dictating information.

Beyond education, problemcenteredness can be applied to various fields, including design, research, and business strategy.
