Precontacts

Precontacts refers to the period of time before significant and sustained interaction between distinct human groups. This concept is most commonly applied in the context of historical encounters, particularly those involving indigenous populations and colonizing European powers. During precontact periods, societies developed independently, shaped by their unique environments, cultures, and technological advancements.

The nature of precontact societies varied immensely across the globe. Some had established complex civilizations with agriculture, organized governments, and extensive trade networks. Others lived in smaller, more nomadic groups, relying on hunting, gathering, and limited trade. Their knowledge of the world was largely confined to their immediate surroundings and the lands with which they had established contact.
