Pozídriv

Pozídriv is a type of screw head drive system. It was invented by John L. Thompson and patented in 1967. The Pozídriv system is designed to improve upon the older Phillips screw head design. It features four main cam slots and four secondary slots located between the main ones, forming a star-like pattern. This design aims to provide greater torque transmission and reduce the likelihood of "cam-out," where the screwdriver bit slips out of the screw head under pressure.

The key feature of Pozídriv is the presence of these smaller, secondary slots. When a Pozídriv screwdriver is inserted into a Pozídriv screw head, the driver bit engages more firmly in both the primary and secondary slots. This increased engagement allows for higher torque to be applied to the screw without the bit losing its grip. This can be particularly useful in applications requiring significant tightening or loosening of screws, such as in furniture assembly, automotive manufacturing, and construction.

It is important to note that Pozídriv screws and screwdrivers are not interchangeable with Phillips screws and screwdrivers. While they may appear similar, using the wrong type of driver can damage both the screw head and the driver bit, leading to stripped screws and reduced efficiency. Pozídriv fasteners are commonly found in European manufactured goods and are often identified by a small "PZ" marking on the screw head.
