Postproduktion, or post-production, is the phase in filmmaking, television, and video production that takes place after principal photography. It encompasses editing, sound design, music synchronization, color correction and color grading, visual effects, titles and graphics, and final mastering. The process typically begins with editorial assembly, where selected takes are cut into a rough cut and refined into a final cut used for distribution. Concurrently, audio post-production refines dialogue, adds Foley and sound effects, creates musical score, and produces a final mix. Visual effects may be created separately and integrated into the footage, including compositing, CGI, and greenscreen work. Color correction ensures consistent image quality, while color grading establishes mood and storytelling consistency.

Deliverables vary by platform but commonly include a final edited master, separate audio stems, subtitles or

captions,
and
distribution-ready
formats.
Metadata,
version
control,
and
archival
storage
are
important
for
rights
management
and
future
reuse.
The
postproduction
workflow
is
supported
by
nonlinear
editing
systems,
color
grading
suites,
and
VFX
pipelines,
and
often
involves
collaboration
among
editors,
sound
designers,
colorists,
and
visual
effects
artists,
with
review
cycles
and
approvals
from
producers
or
directors.
The
scope
and
duration
of
postproduction
depend
on
project
type,
budget,
and
schedule,
and
may
include
international
localization,
quality
control,
and
delivery
to
multiple
formats
and
platforms.
Postproduction
is

shaping
stage
that
turns
raw
material
into
a
polished,
market-ready
product.
