Positioneri

Positioneri, also known as positioners or actuators, are devices used in industrial automation to control the position of mechanical components. They are typically employed in conjunction with a control system, such as a programmable logic controller (PLC) or a distributed control system (DCS), to achieve precise movement and placement. Positioners can be pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic in nature, each offering different advantages in terms of power, speed, and accuracy.

Pneumatic positioners utilize compressed air to move a piston or diaphragm, translating the air pressure into linear or rotary motion. Electric positioners, on the other hand, employ electric motors, often servo motors or stepper motors, to achieve very precise and repeatable positioning. Hydraulic positioners use pressurized fluid, typically oil, for high-force applications where significant power is required.

The primary function of a positioner is to regulate the output of a control element, such as a valve or a damper. By receiving a command signal from the control system, the positioner adjusts its internal mechanism to move the connected component to the desired position, thereby controlling the flow of a fluid, gas, or other medium. They are crucial for maintaining process variables like temperature, pressure, and flow rate within specified limits. Common applications include control valves in chemical plants, dampers in HVAC systems, and robotic arm joints in manufacturing.
