Polystyreenilevyjä

Polystyreenilevyjä, commonly known as polystyrene sheets, are a type of plastic material derived from styrene. Polystyrene is a widely used, versatile thermoplastic polymer. Polystyrene sheets are manufactured in various forms, including extruded and expanded polystyrene (EPS).

Extruded polystyrene sheets are produced through an extrusion process that melts polystyrene beads and forces them through a die, resulting in a dense, rigid sheet. These sheets are known for their good insulation properties, moisture resistance, and ease of fabrication. They are often used in construction for insulation boards, thermal breaks, and vapor barriers. Their smooth surface also makes them suitable for graphic arts and display applications.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) sheets, also known as Styrofoam, are made by expanding small polystyrene beads that contain a blowing agent. When heated, the beads expand significantly and fuse together, creating a lightweight material with a cellular structure composed mostly of air. This structure gives EPS exceptional thermal insulation qualities and cushioning properties. EPS sheets are extensively used in packaging to protect goods during transport and storage, as well as in building insulation for walls, roofs, and floors. They are also found in disposable cups, food containers, and craft projects.

Both types of polystyrene sheets are generally recyclable, although the recycling infrastructure and processes can vary depending on location and the specific type of polystyrene. Their affordability, ease of use, and performance characteristics have made polystyrene sheets a common material in many industries.
