Polymerfilme

Polymerfilme are thin sheets of polymer material used as flexible substrates and barriers in a wide range of industries. They include cast and blown films with thicknesses from a few micrometers to several hundred micrometers. Production methods typically involve cast film extrusion or blown film extrusion, and films may be used as single-material layers or as multilayer structures that combine different polymers and barrier layers. Some films are oriented to improve strength and clarity.

Common polymers used for polymerfilme include polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Other frequently used materials are polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyimide for high-temperature applications, and biodegradable options such as polylactide (PLA) and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). Many films are coated or laminated with additional layers to improve barrier properties against moisture and gases, or to enable printing, sealing, or metallization.

Key properties of polymerfilme depend on polymer type, thickness, and processing. Important characteristics include transparency, tensile strength, elongation, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and barrier performance for water vapor and oxygen. Optical quality and sealability are critical in packaging applications. Multilayer films can achieve superior performance but may present recyclability and end-of-life challenges.

Applications span food and pharmaceutical packaging, agricultural films, electrical insulation and flexible electronics, membranes for gas or water separation, and protective or decorative coatings. Sustainability considerations emphasize recyclability and the availability of compostable or bio-based variants, as well as regulatory compliance for food contact and safety.
