Polymerbibliotek, meaning "polymer library" in several Scandinavian languages, denotes a curated collection of polymers or polymer-related data assembled to enable systematic exploration of how structure influences properties. In practice, a polymerbibliotek can comprise physical samples—such as microplate arrays of polymers with defined compositions—or digital catalogs detailing polymer entries with specified monomers, architectures, and end groups. It may cover sequence-controlled macromolecules, block or random copolymers, dendritic structures, and other architectures, along with associated metadata such as molecular weight, dispersity, solubility, and processing stability.

The components of a polymerbibliotek typically include a defined set of monomers, a set of polymerization strategies, and a range of target molecular weights and architectures. Construction methods often employ combinatorial or parallel synthesis, including split-and-mix or high-throughput polymerization, followed by rapid characterization by NMR, GPC, MALDI-TOF, or spectroscopy. Data management is central: each entry is described with structural information, synthesis conditions, and measured properties to support data mining and machine learning for property prediction.

Applications span materials discovery and optimization across fields such as biomedicine, energy storage, coatings, adhesives, and sensing. A polymerlibrary facilitates systematic screening for properties like mechanical strength, biodegradability, biocompatibility, thermal stability, or catalytic activity, enabling faster identification of promising candidates and structure–property relationships.

Challenges include synthesis complexity, accurate high-throughput characterization, data curation, reproducibility, and intellectual property considerations. Ongoing developments aim to integrate experimental libraries with computational design and standardized reporting to enhance interoperability.
