Poloka

Poloka is a town in Veridia, a fictional country in the Veridian region. It is the administrative center of Poloka District, located along the Poloka River in the Veridian lowlands. The town has a population of about 6,500 residents. The name Poloka derives from the Polokan language, meaning “ford by the reeds.”

Historically, Poloka began as a medieval trading post and gained town rights in 1423. It developed as a local market center and, in the 19th century, expanded with light textile and leather crafts. Today its economy combines agriculture, logistics, and small manufacturing, with surrounding farms producing grains and dairy.

Culturally, Poloka hosts an annual harvest festival and retains several Veridian craft traditions. The central square is dominated by a 15th-century church and the visible remains of a medieval fortress.

Governance and services: Poloka is governed by a town council within the wider provincial administration. It provides primary and secondary education, a public library, and basic healthcare services. The town is connected by regional roads; there is no railway, with the nearest station located approximately 20 kilometers away.

Demographics: The population is ethnically diverse, with Varidian as the majority language and several minority dialects spoken. The town is characterized by a small but active civic life and a tradition of local volunteering.
