Pollineringsstrategier refer to the various methods plants employ to achieve pollination, the transfer of pollen from the anther to the stigma, which is essential for fertilization and reproduction in many plant species. These strategies are adaptations that have evolved to facilitate this crucial process, often involving interactions with external agents.

One common strategy is abiotic pollination, which relies on non-living agents like wind and water. Anemophily, or wind pollination, is prevalent in grasses, sedges, and many trees. These plants typically produce vast quantities of lightweight, dry pollen that is easily carried by air currents. They often lack showy petals or strong scents, as these are unnecessary to attract pollinators. Hydrophily, or water pollination, is less common and occurs in aquatic plants where pollen is released into or floats on water.

The majority of flowering plants, however, utilize biotic pollination, relying on living organisms. Entomophily, or insect pollination, is the most widespread biotic strategy. Plants attract insects, such as bees, butterflies, moths, and flies, through a combination of visual cues like bright petals and olfactory cues like fragrances. They also offer rewards in the form of nectar, a sugary liquid, and pollen itself. Each insect pollinator has unique characteristics that influence the pollination strategy. For instance, bees are attracted to bright colors and specific shapes, while moths often visit pale, fragrant flowers that open at night.

Other biotic strategies include ornithophily (bird pollination), typically by hummingbirds or sunbirds, which are attracted to red or orange flowers with abundant nectar, and chiropterophily (bat pollination), where bats visit large, pale, often musky-scented flowers that produce copious nectar and open at night. Mammal pollination also occurs, though less frequently. These diverse pollinating strategies ensure the reproductive success of a vast array of plant species.
