PolicenIdentifikation
PolicenIdentifikation is the process by which police authorities verify or establish the identity of a person, or identify a person linked to a crime or incident. It occurs during field encounters, investigations, detention, or processing of evidence. The goals include confirming someone’s identity, linking a person to documents or events, and supporting case-building. Common methods include verifying official identification documents (national ID cards, passports, driver’s licenses), collecting biometric data (fingerprints, facial images, iris scans, voice samples in some contexts), and cross-checking against internal or external databases (watch lists, criminal records, immigration data). In many jurisdictions, eyewitness testimony, surveillance footage, and informant information may contribute to identification but are subject to safeguards to reduce misidentification. The use of biometric data and automated recognition systems is regulated by data protection and criminal-law frameworks that govern purpose, retention, consent, and security.
Safeguards include ensuring accuracy, avoiding bias, and maintaining chain of custody and auditability. Civil rights considerations
