Polümeerikiudude, or polymer fibers, are materials produced from synthetic polymers that are spun into a filament form. These fibers are a cornerstone of modern textile and industrial applications due to their diverse properties and cost-effectiveness. The production process typically involves melting a polymer or dissolving it in a solvent, then extruding the molten or dissolved material through a spinneret, which is a die with many tiny holes. As the extruded streams cool and solidify, they form continuous filaments.

Common examples of polymer fibers include polyester, nylon, and acrylic. Polyester fibers are known for their strength, wrinkle resistance, and durability, making them popular in clothing and home furnishings. Nylon fibers, characterized by their high tensile strength, elasticity, and abrasion resistance, are widely used in hosiery, ropes, and carpets. Acrylic fibers mimic the feel and appearance of wool, offering warmth, softness, and resistance to sunlight and chemicals, finding use in sweaters, blankets, and outdoor fabrics.

The properties of polymer fibers can be tailored during their manufacturing process. Factors like the type of polymer used, the fineness of the fibers (denier), their cross-sectional shape, and surface treatments can all influence the final characteristics such as absorbency, drape, luster, and thermal insulation.
