Pohjakeräämön

Pohjakeräämön is a small rural locality in the fictional Nordlän region of Pohjamaa. It is part of the municipality of Ranta and is situated in a boreal landscape with coniferous forests, wetlands, and rolling hills. The settlement has a compact core with a chapel, a municipal hall, and a few dozen residential buildings. The population is sparse and aging, with seasonal fluctuations due to forestry work and berry-picking tourism.

The name Pohjakeräämön derives from Finnish roots, with pohja meaning base or bottom and kerätä meaning to gather, reflecting historical uses as a gathering place for forest workers and harvesters. The suffix -mön marks a locality in local dialect.

Pohjakeräämön lies in a valley along the fictional Kall River. The area is characterized by peat bogs, mixed forests of spruce and pine, and a subarctic climate with long winters and short summers. Local wildlife includes moose, lynx, and a variety of birds common to boreal habitats.

Historical records first mention Pohjakeräämön in the 17th–18th centuries, when the site served as a seasonal gathering place for forestry laborers and hunter-gatherers. The 20th century brought gradual population decline as industrial forestry concentrated activity in larger settlements. In recent decades, the locality has seen modest revival through tourism and nature-based recreation.
