Podstatá

Podstatá is a fictional city-state in the western archipelago of Nyrria, within the world of Eldara. It has long been a center of administration, learning, and maritime trade, serving as a political and cultural hub for the region. The name Podstatá derives from the Old Talion word for essence, reflecting its historical role as a core or foundation.

Podstatá occupies the main island of Vassari with a protected harbor and several smaller islets. The coastline combines terraces, mangrove belts, and stone quays. The old town forms a compact core along the harbor, while newer districts lie on ridges overlooking the sea.

Founded in the 9th century by the Pact of Seven, Podstatá developed as a mercantile and scholarly republic. Today it operates as a unitary parliamentary republic, with a seven-member Council and a Speaker who presides over sessions. The Podstatarian Code guides civil and commercial law.

Its economy emphasizes maritime trade, shipbuilding, and glasswork. Important institutions include the Grand Archive and the Guild of Mariners. Podstatá hosts annual festivals devoted to knowledge, poetry, and wind, and public life stresses accessible education for residents and visitors alike.

The city-state has an estimated population around 180,000. Official languages include Podstatan and Nyrrian. Notable sites include the Grand Archive, the Council Spire, and the Harbor of Echoes, which serves as a hub for markets and ceremonies.
