Pochodit is a Czech verb meaning to walk around for a while, to wander about, typically without a fixed destination. It is formed with the prefix po- added to the verb chodit, and it is mainly used in colloquial or neutral spoken language. The nuance is that the action is extended in time or carried out in a relaxed, aimless way rather than being a single, purposeful traversal.

Usage and meaning: Pochodit describes spending some time walking in a particular area, often with a sense of casual wandering. It can imply repeated or wandering movement within a place, rather than a thorough examination or a direct route. It is commonly used with place phrases such as po městě, po parku, po ulicích. In contrast to prolonged or systematic movement implied by projít (to go through) or procházet (to stroll through), pochodeit emphasizes casual strolling and exploration.

Aspect and conjugation: Pochodit behaves as an iterative form of chodit. In present tense it follows the same person-aspect pattern as chodit (já chodím, ty chodíš, on chodí, my chodíme, vy chodíte, oni chodí). In the past it can be used with a perfective nuance depending on context (for example člověk může říct: pochodil jsem po městě), but in everyday speech the distinction is sometimes subtle and context-driven.

Examples: Dnes jsem pochodil po městě a navštívil několik kaváren. Po obědě jsme si pochodili po parku. Když je venku volno, často pochodí po chodbách a zkouší, kam dojdou.
