Platvormidevaheline

Platvormidevaheline, in Estonian, refers to interoperability and cross-communication between different platform ecosystems. The term combines platvorm (platform) with vaheline (between or inter-), and is used to describe the ability of software, services or data to function across distinct platforms such as operating systems, device types, web ecosystems or marketplace environments.

The concept covers technical, organizational and policy aspects of making systems work together. In computing, platvormidevaheline interoperability is often achieved through open standards, well-defined application programming interfaces (APIs), and common data formats. Common technologies include RESTful and GraphQL APIs, JSON or XML data representations, and identity and access standards such as OAuth 2.0 and SAML. Platform-agnostic design, such as API-first development, microservices, and containerization, also supports cross-platform operation.

Applications span software development, cloud and on-premises integration, web and mobile experiences, and Internet of Things (IoT). Examples include web applications that run in multiple browsers and on various devices, desktop and mobile apps built with cross-platform frameworks, and data exchange between disparate systems via standardized APIs. Interoperability also enables marketplace or platform ecosystems to interact, for instance when services from different providers are composed into a single user workflow.
