Plattformauflieger

A plattformauflieger, also known as a platform trailer, is a type of semi-trailer that lacks sides and a roof. Its primary purpose is to transport large, heavy, or irregularly shaped cargo that would not fit into a conventional enclosed trailer. These trailers are characterized by their flat, open deck, which provides a stable and accessible surface for loading and unloading.

Plattformauflieger come in various configurations, including standard flatbeds, low-loaders (also known as drop-deck trailers), and extendable flatbeds. Low-loaders are designed with a recessed deck that sits lower than the gooseneck, making them ideal for transporting tall machinery and equipment. Extendable flatbeds can be lengthened to accommodate exceptionally long items such as structural beams or wind turbine components.

The construction of a plattformauflieger typically involves a robust steel frame to support significant weight. The deck surface can be made of wood, metal, or a combination of materials, often featuring tie-down points or stake pockets to secure the cargo.
