Plasmastrålning

Plasmastrålning, also known as plasma spraying, is a thermal spraying process used to deposit a molten or semi-molten coating onto a surface. In this process, a plasma gas, typically argon, nitrogen, or hydrogen, is ionized and heated to very high temperatures, forming a plasma jet. The coating material, in the form of a powder, is injected into this plasma jet where it rapidly melts and accelerates towards the substrate. Upon impact, the molten particles flatten, cool, and solidify, forming a dense, protective coating.

The high temperatures achievable with plasma spraying, often exceeding 10,000 degrees Celsius, allow for the melting and deposition of a wide range of materials, including ceramics, metals, and cermets. This versatility makes it suitable for various applications requiring enhanced wear resistance, thermal insulation, corrosion protection, or electrical insulation. Industries that commonly utilize plasmastrålning include aerospace, automotive, energy, and medical devices.

The characteristics of the deposited coating can be controlled by adjusting parameters such as plasma gas composition, power, flow rate, and powder feed rate. This allows for tailoring the coating's microstructure, porosity, and adhesion to the substrate. While effective, the process requires specialized equipment and careful control to ensure optimal coating quality and performance.
