Plasmaskærere

Plasmaskærere, also known as plasma cutters, are tools that use an electric arc and compressed gas to cut through electrically conductive materials. This process creates a high-temperature plasma stream that melts and blows away the metal, resulting in a clean and precise cut.

The fundamental principle behind plasma cutting involves ionizing a gas, such as compressed air or nitrogen, by passing it through an electric arc. This ionization transforms the gas into a superheated plasma, typically reaching temperatures exceeding 20,000 degrees Celsius. The plasma is then forced through a constricted nozzle, creating a focused jet. When this jet is directed at a conductive workpiece, the intense heat melts the material, and the high velocity of the plasma gas expels the molten metal from the cut.

Plasma cutting offers several advantages over traditional cutting methods like oxy-fuel cutting. It can cut a wider range of metals, including stainless steel, aluminum, and copper, which are difficult or impossible to cut with oxy-fuel. Plasma cutting is also generally faster and produces a narrower kerf, leading to less material waste and a cleaner edge. However, it requires electricity and a compressed gas supply.

The applications of plasmaskærere are diverse. They are commonly used in fabrication shops, manufacturing industries, construction, and even for repair work. Their ability to cut thick materials quickly and accurately makes them invaluable in many industrial settings.
