Planetenkupplung is a mechanical coupling device that utilizes the principle of a planetary gear set to transmit power between a driving shaft and a driven shaft while allowing for speed reduction or increase. The basic construction consists of a central sun gear, multiple identical planet gears that rotate around the sun gear, a stationary ring gear (annulus) that encloses the planet gears, and a carrier that holds the planet gears. When the sun gear is driven and the ring gear is fixed, the carrier, which is linked to the output shaft, turns at a speed that is a fraction of the input speed, achieving a reduction. By interchanging which component is driven, which is held fixed, and which is free to rotate, a planetary clutch can also provide a speed increase or a variable torque ratio.
