Planetengetrieben

Planetengetriebe, also known as epicyclic gearing, is a gear system consisting of one or more outer gears (planet gears) orbiting a central gear (sun gear). Typically, the planet gears are mounted on a carrier that rotates around the sun gear. This arrangement allows for high torque transmission and significant gear reduction within a compact space.

The sun gear is the central gear, and the planet gears revolve around it. The planet gears are also in mesh with an internal ring gear, which has teeth on its inner surface. The carrier holds the planet gears in place and rotates as a unit. The relative speeds of these components determine the overall gear ratio and output. Different configurations can be achieved by fixing one of the components (sun, planet carrier, or ring gear) or by driving different components.

Planetary gear systems are known for their coaxial input and output shafts, making them suitable for applications where space is limited. They offer high efficiency and can handle significant loads. Their ability to achieve large reduction ratios in a single stage makes them versatile.

Common applications for planetary gearboxes include automotive transmissions, where they enable automatic gear shifting and provide different gear ratios. They are also found in wind turbines for speed reduction, in industrial machinery for power transmission, and in robotics for precise motion control. The compact size and high torque capacity of planetary gear systems make them a preferred choice in many engineering fields.
