Placostylidae
Placostylidae is a family of medium to large terrestrial snails, commonly known as placostyles. These snails are endemic to the Pacific islands, with their distribution ranging from New Caledonia eastward to the Cook Islands and Samoa. They are characterized by their large, elongated, and often brightly colored shells, which can measure up to 15 centimeters in length. The shell surface is typically sculptured with axial ribs and spiral striae. Placostylids inhabit a variety of environments, including forests, scrublands, and gardens, where they feed on decaying vegetation and fungi.
The family Placostylidae contains several genera, with Placostylus being the most well-known. Species within this family
