Pitkäkasvuisuus, or tall stature, refers to a condition where an individual's height significantly exceeds the average for their age and sex. This deviation is typically defined as being at or above the 97th percentile for height on standard growth charts. In most cases, pitkäkasvuisuus is a benign and normal variation of human growth, often inherited from parents with a tall genetic predisposition.

However, in some instances, pitkäkasvuisuus can be a symptom of an underlying medical condition. These can include endocrine disorders such as gigantism or acromegaly, which are caused by an overproduction of growth hormone, or conditions like Marfan syndrome or Sotos syndrome, which affect connective tissues and overall development.
