Pistolettes
Pistolettes are a type of bread roll originating from France, particularly associated with the Normandy region. They are characterized by their small size, often oblong or slightly oval shape, and a typically crisp crust. The interior is usually soft and airy. The name "pistolet" is thought to derive from the historical Spanish coin, the "pistolet," possibly due to the rolls once being priced similarly or having a rounded appearance reminiscent of coins.
Historically, pistolettes were a common accompaniment to meals in France and were also sold by street vendors.
