Pintateksturoinnit, or surface texturings, refer to techniques that create intentional patterns and relief on painted or coated surfaces. The purpose is to modify appearance, feel, and functional properties such as grip, glare control, slip resistance, or light diffusion.

Texturing can be achieved through mechanical, chemical, or energy-assisted processes. Mechanical methods include embossing, stamping, roll texturing, abrasive finishing (sand-blasting, shot peening), or patterned coatings applied by rollers or sprays. Chemical and energy-assisted methods use paints or coatings formulated with micro- or nano-sized beads, pigments, or polymers to create texture during curing, or employ laser texturing or controlled etching to produce precise micro-patterns on metal, plastic, or glass.

Materials and patterns vary from fine microtextures to coarse relief. Typical textured coatings include acrylic, epoxy, polyurethane, and alkyd paints with added aggregates, as well as primers and sealants designed for adhesion and durability.

Applications span automotive exteriors and interiors, architectural and decorative surfaces, consumer electronics housings, furniture, and industrial components where appearance, tactile feedback, or functional attributes such as improved grip or reduced glare are valued.

Characterization usually measures texture depth and roughness (Ra, Rz) and gloss, following standards such as ISO 4287, ISO 25178, and ISO 2813. Process selection considers substrate compatibility, geometric complexity, durability, and environmental or safety requirements.

Pintateksturoinnit are part of broader surface-finishing strategies and are used to differentiate products, conceal minor surface flaws, or add tactile and optical effects.
