Piledrilling

Piledrilling is a construction technique used to install piles into the ground. It involves using a rotary drilling method rather than the more common impact driving. A drill bit is attached to a rotating shaft, which is lowered into the ground. The rotation of the bit grinds away the soil or rock, creating a hole for the pile. Water or drilling fluid is often pumped down the shaft to help flush out the spoil and stabilize the borehole.

This method is particularly useful in areas where impact driving might cause excessive vibration or noise, or where the ground conditions are difficult, such as dense soil or rock. Piledrilling can create a more precise and controlled installation, which is beneficial for certain types of structures. The process allows for the removal of soil as drilling progresses, which can be advantageous in confined spaces or when dealing with unstable ground.

Once the borehole is drilled to the required depth, the pile, which can be a steel pipe, concrete section, or other structural element, is lowered into the hole. Grout or concrete may then be injected into the annular space between the pile and the borehole to provide stability and load-bearing capacity. Piledrilling offers an alternative to traditional piling methods, providing a solution for a variety of geotechnical challenges and project requirements.
