Pihusti

Pihusti is a term used in Estonian to refer to a device or system that converts liquid into a fine spray for application. It can describe consumer spray bottles, sprinkler nozzles, or more complex sprayer equipment used in agriculture, horticulture, cleaning, cosmetics, and medical contexts. The common idea across uses is the controlled delivery of liquid as droplets rather than a continuous stream.

There are several types of pihusti. Manual pump spray devices rely on a user-operated pump or trigger to pressurize the liquid and eject it through a nozzle. Aerosol spray cans use an enclosed propellant to expel the liquid as a spray, often with a pressurized reservoir. More advanced or industrial systems include air-assisted or airless sprayers that use external air flow or high pressure to atomize the liquid. Nozzle design, including cone, fan, or jet configurations, determines the spray pattern and droplet size.

Common applications include applying plant protection products and fertilizers in agriculture, distributing cleaning solutions in households, dispensing cosmetics and personal care products, and delivering medicines in nasal or topical spray forms. Some pihusti systems are designed for precise dosing, while others prioritize speed and coverage over exact measurements.

Safety and environmental considerations are important. Users should avoid inhaling aerosols, wear appropriate protective equipment when handling hazardous chemicals, and follow label directions. Aerosol cans require proper disposal and recycling, and propellants have shifted over time toward more environmentally friendly options.
