Pierrot, also known as Pedrolino in Italian, is a stock character from Commedia dell'arte and a prominent figure in European pantomime. He is typically portrayed as a pale, white-faced clown with a loose white tunic and trousers, a ruffled collar, and simple footwear. Pierrot is usually depicted as gentle, naive, and melancholic, often pining for Columbine and drifting through his world in a state of bemused innocence. He is the melancholic counterpart to Harlequin.
