Petroleumingenjörskonsten, often translated as petroleum engineering, is a field of engineering concerned with the activities of the petroleum industry. Completion engineers are involved in designing and overseeing the process of preparing a well for production after drilling.

Petroleum engineers employ a variety of techniques and technologies. They use geological and geophysical data to locate potential hydrocarbon deposits. Advanced computer modeling and simulation are used to understand reservoir behavior and optimize extraction strategies. They also develop and implement methods for enhanced oil recovery, which involves techniques to increase the amount of oil or gas that can be extracted from a reservoir. This field requires a strong understanding of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and geology. Petroleum engineers work in a variety of settings, from offshore platforms to onshore drilling sites, and often collaborate with geoscientists and other engineers.
