Petrokeemia

Petrokeemia is a term derived from "petroleum" and "chemistry," referring to the branch of chemistry that deals with the production and use of chemicals derived from petroleum. These chemicals, known as petrochemicals, are fundamental building blocks for a vast array of products that are integral to modern life. The petrochemical industry transforms crude oil and natural gas into these essential compounds through various refining and processing techniques.

The process typically begins with the distillation of crude oil, separating it into different fractions based on boiling points. These fractions, such as naphtha, kerosene, and gas oil, are then subjected to further cracking and reforming processes to produce smaller hydrocarbon molecules. Key petrochemicals derived include olefins like ethylene and propylene, and aromatics like benzene, toluene, and xylene. These primary petrochemicals are then used as feedstocks for the synthesis of a multitude of secondary and tertiary chemicals.

The applications of petrochemicals are extremely diverse.
