Perzentils

Perzentils, also known as percentiles, are a measure used in statistics to indicate the value below which a given percentage of observations in a group of observations falls. For example, the 20th Perzentil is the value below which 20 percent of the observations may be found. Conversely, the 80th Perzentil is the value below which 80 percent of the observations may be found.

Perzentils are often used to understand the distribution of a dataset and to compare values within that dataset. They are particularly useful when dealing with skewed data or when you want to identify the relative standing of a particular data point. Common examples include reporting test scores, where the 90th Perzentil means a student scored higher than 90 percent of other test-takers, or in income statistics, to show the income level that separates the lowest portion of earners from the highest.

Calculating a Perzentil involves ordering the data from smallest to largest. The position of the Perzentil is then determined using a specific formula, and the value at that position is the Perzentil. There are slight variations in how Perzentils are calculated, especially when dealing with discrete data or when the position falls between two data points. However, the general concept remains the same: dividing the data into one hundred equal parts. The median, for instance, is the 50th Perzentil, representing the middle value of the dataset.
