Permittebas

Permittebas is a municipality in the province of Soria in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. The settlement dates back to the mid‑13th century, when the Crown of Castile founded it as a strategic outpost on the Camino de Santiago. Archaeological finds indicate that the area was inhabited during the Roman period, but the medieval town grew around a small charter granted in 1287 to a nobleman named Enrique de Silva.

The village sits at an elevation of 1,050 metres above sea level on the eastern slope of the Sierra de la Alcarria. It is surrounded by pine forests and terraced farmland, which sustain a local economy based primarily on sheep and goat husbandry. In the early 20th century, a small textile mill operated on the river Guadalest, but it closed in 1952. Today the economy is largely subsistence agriculture and rural tourism, with the annual Festa de San Juan and the Church of Santa María de la Peña serving as major attractions for visitors.

Permittebas has a population of approximately 200 residents, according to the 2020 census. The local dialect is a mix of central Castilian Spanish and the traditional llanero speech of the surrounding highlands. The municipality is governed by a mayor and a council elected by universal suffrage, with the mayor holding office for a four‑year term. The community participates in the comarca of Tarazona y el Moncayo, collaborating on regional initiatives for rural development and cultural preservation.
