Soria

Soria is a city and municipality in north-central Spain, and the capital of the province of Soria in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is situated on the Duero river in a high central plateau, at about one thousand meters above sea level. The city has a population of around 40,000 and serves as the administrative, cultural, and economic center of the region.

Historically, Soria's location has long linked it to Celtiberian and Roman routes. Nearby Numantia, an ancient Celtiberian city, was the site of the famous siege by Rome in the 2nd century BCE, and the Numantino Museum preserves related artifacts. The historic center of Soria contains a notable collection of Romanesque and medieval architecture, including churches and other religious buildings, as well as a medieval old town with narrow streets.

Cultural institutions include the Museo Numantino, which houses archaeological collections spanning prehistory to the Roman era, and the surrounding landscapes of the Duero river valley. The economy is based on services, industry, and agriculture, with tourism focused on its historical heritage and natural surroundings.

The climate is continental mountain type, with hot summers and cold winters, reflecting its high elevation and inland position. Soria remains a quiet provincial capital, known for its historical heritage, museums, and proximity to Celtiberian and Castilian cultural landmarks.
