Perkeiiams
Perkeiiams are an extinct genus of large-bodied, herbivorous reptiles that lived during the Upper Jurassic period, approximately 155 to 145 million years ago. Fossil remains attributed to this genus have been recovered primarily from sedimentary deposits in the central United Kingdom and southern France, where the species is thought to have inhabited river floodplain environments. The perkeiiams were characterized by a robust, ribcage-bearing thorax, a drooping head, and a long tail used for balance while moving across the floodplains. Their limb proportions suggest they were primarily terrestrial, with occasional spans into shallow waters.
Taxonomically, the perkeiiams fall within the clade Sauropodomorpha and have been placed in the family Guaibasauridae.
The name “Perkeiiam” derives from the Latinised name of the Perkeian Plateau, a reference to the first
